Sankranthiki Vasthunam OTT Release Delayed Amid Box Office Success

The Telugu action-comedy film, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, starring Venkatesh Daggubati, has made an impressive mark at the box office since its release on January 14. The film, which blends humor with action, has been a crowd-puller, grossing over Rs 150 crore domestically and surpassing Rs 200 crore worldwide. In light of this phenomenal box-office performance, significant changes have emerged regarding its planned OTT debut, originally scheduled for February.

While Sankranthiki Vasthunam was slated for digital release in the second week of February, producers have decided to delay the OTT debut to capitalize on its ongoing success in theaters. Industry reports, including updates from OTTPlay, suggest that Zee5 secured the film's digital rights for Rs 30 crore, with an agreement in place for a February release. However, given the film’s sustained success, producer Dil Raju is reportedly negotiating with the streaming platform to push back the digital premiere.

The delay is strategic: the film’s box office earnings continue to rise, and releasing it on OTT too soon might dampen its theatrical momentum. This move echoes the ongoing trend of films extending their time in theaters before transitioning to digital platforms.

Sankranthiki Vasthunam has been breaking records, with its earnings reaching Rs 10 crore on its 13th day, setting a new benchmark for films in this stage of their theatrical run. The film’s gripping plot, featuring a suspended police officer caught in a kidnapping case, and Venkatesh's dynamic performance, have contributed to its growing popularity.

Notably, the film's lead, Venkatesh, is joined by Meenakshi Chaudhary as his ex-girlfriend, and Aishwarya Rajesh, playing his wife. Their combined performances have resonated well with the audience, ensuring that the film’s theater audience continues to grow. As the numbers keep climbing, the producers are hopeful that the theatrical run will continue to thrive before releasing the film online.
